The extensive forests of Pohorje have often provided shelter for people. During World War II numerous hidden Partisan hospitals were erected in western Pohorje. Apart from the medical staff, the wounded combatants were also taken care of by the local population. The Pavček hospitals have therefore remained a symbol of human solidarity.
One of the most known hospitals of the Pavček hospitals is Trška gora – Sladki (‘Sweet’) named after honey brought to them by a peasant named Štalekar from Golavabuka. The hospital is now an open-air museum.
